My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting a pet for a long time now. It started off as "Hey maybe we should get goldfish" which then turned into "I think a bunny would be cute." After some discussion we decided on getting a guinea pig, and it was going to be somewhat of a Valentine's Day present that we would both chip in for. We made some shopping trips to Petco and Walmart, and got a cage, some food, and some treats. Now all that remained was getting the pig. We made a visit to our local animal shelter, but by the time we were ready to bring a pig home there were no adoptable pigs. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it gave us more time to research into how to best take care of a guinea pig. And boy did we learn a lot! We found out that the food and treats we thought would be great were actually terrible for guinea pigs (containing seeds, alfalpha, brightly colored nuggets; basically Lucky Charms for cavies) and that the cage we had bought was probably too small. We also learned that guinea pigs are happiest when they have a friend, so we started looking for a bonded pair. Last week a friend on facebook shared a link on Craigslist for two guinea pigs whose owners were moving on the 28th and needed to rehome them. They were two little girls named Snowball and Belle, and I thought that they would be perfect for us, so I contacted the owner and we picked them up last Saturday. They were understandably scared during the trip home and during their first few days with us, but they have made amazing progress with getting used to us in just one week (or should I say, "wheek?")
The brown one was Belle. We renamed her Chloe, and the white one was Snowball and we renamed her Vivian (Vivi for short.)

Their new home! C&C cages are awesome! The are both loving the larger space to run and play in!
